Pruning Systems

This is one of the most important tasks in the vineyard. This is the initial step in crop regulation and shoot positioning during the dormant season.  You remove up to 80% of the previous year’s growth to regulate and optimize next year’s growth.  In cold climates techniques such as multiple trunking and double pruning help ensure the success of the vineyard.  Most people spur prune on a permanent cordon, although one might cane prune to increase fruitfulness.
